‘Things are going to get really bad before they get really good’. (Funmilayo)

This is probably my worst year as a Nigerian in Nigeria. Tomato is as expensive and as scarce as gold. The price of PMS is twice the former. The market has become a place of burden, haggling and cut-throat prices for even the littlest of commodities.

The price of Naira to dollar keeps getting worse as the Naira is now half its former value. As things get more expensive, more people are losing their jobs and even those that still have a job, have no increase in their income whatsoever.

There is hardly any light and the water supply is not encouraging either. All these problems and yet the people of Nigeria are still living as peacefully as they can notwithstanding the terrorist attacks. We’ve gotten tired of it all and just get on with life one day at a time.

It’s been horrible for us in University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. We’ve been struggling from day to day; facing school stress, no water so we have to buy even our bathing water (N15/10 liters of water), no light (including generator) for close to two weeks, poor Wi-Fi connectivity. And we’ve got all these problems with exams around the corner.

However, the students, under the mandate of the S.U.G, embarked on a sit-at-home strike for a week expecting results from the administration especially on the light issue tagged #NLNL (No Light No Lectures). Peaceful as it was, the school only continued on its 2 hours generator light policy as opposed to the former condition of 4 hours generator light.

In a bid to vent their frustration, some students embarked on violent actions destroying school properties, vehicles and setting things ablaze. There was a lot of tension in the air until the police arrived and used tear gas to calm the situation although they beat up an innocent fellow returning from the ATM to stupor. Now we’re at home pending the end of an indefinite strike.

It may seem as though all hope is lost but we just have to keep on praying God’s will for Nigeria. Keep on blessing the land and proclaiming good upon the people because our peace is somewhat tied to the peace of the land.

I’ll never give up on my Nigeria! God Bless Nigeria! No Light No Lectures!
