2 Things To Know About Everything

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…
(Hosea 4:6)

Taking a look at our society, there’s a lot of hate, abuse, misunderstanding and a whole lot of other things going on. According to statistics one in three women is a victim of domestic violence. One in three girls and one in six boys are victims of sexual abuse before they reach the age of 18. Children Die Every Day From Abuse or Neglect. In 2005, an estimated 1,460 children died as a result of abuse or neglect (USDHHS, 2007). The majority almost 76.6 percent of these children were 3 years of age or younger. Most child fatalities (76.6 percent) happened at the hands of parents (USDHHS, 2007).

One of the major problem we have today which leads to all these incidents is that people only know one thing about what they know: the thing itself. Everybody knows about education, sex, marriage, money, etc. The bone of contention is that some miss out on the knowledge of its PURPOSE.

“When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable.” (Myles Munroe)

For everything that exists, there is a purpose attached to that thing (Proverbs 16:4, ESV). God never created anything as useless. Even the devil understands his purpose (John 10:9)! When people acquaint themselves with only the base knowledge of a thing, abuse is inevitable.

The purpose of sex is in marriage; as a bond, means of procreation. However, because one wouldn’t understand this, one will surely go ahead to abuse it for means of pleasure. Abuse of this occurs in premarital sex, rape, abuse, masturbation and so on. Even in marriage itself, an institution which is to serve the purpose of union, training, guidance and nurturing the children of God, abuse is now a common occurrence as homes fall apart in divorce or abuse between partners.

However, to every act of disobedience, there are punishments God permits because He loves and chastises His own to correct us and make us better (Hebrews 12:6; 2:2, 2Corinthians 10:6). This is very evident in the cases of diseases and sufferings experienced by perpetrators of such abuse. The victims are unfortunately dragged into the mess physically or psychologically (children from broken homes, victims of rape and abuse).

GOOD NEWS: God is ever-ready to accept us into His loving arms, heal us and make us whole (1John 1:19). This is our confidence!
