Practice What You Preach

1 Corinthians 9:27, 1 Timothy 4:16
It’s so much easier to say a thing than to do it. It’s so much easier to give advice and read the best books than it is to practice it in life. It’s easier to study the word (logos) and get revelations (rhema) than it is to share the Word with non-Christians to convert them… It’s easier to talk the talk than it is to walk the walk!

I can say this for a certainty because I’ve also been a victim of this act as I would easily dish out advice to people and go contrary to it when faced with a similar situation. I’d advise you to forgive and yet hold a grudge against someone. The worst part is when you get caught… Words just seem to fail you as well as courage and esteem begins to fail the person I had advised.

This is however a very serious matter. Many people no longer pay attention to the teachings of Christ by preachers and ministers alike because they believe that they don’t practice what they preach, that they say one thing and do another; teaching and yet confusing the people all the more. I believe that this is a very grievous offence. Even the Bible acknowledges it as not only deceit but also self-deceit.

Looking at the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ as he walked on the earth, he never preached what He couldn’t do. In love, He laid His family and life down for us. In humility, he washed the feet of the disciples. In discipline, he overcame the devil’s temptations. In wisdom, he spoke and confounded men. In obedience, he took his cup in the Garden of Gethsemane. In patience, he waited until the appointed time and fulfilled God’s will. In power, He healed and with diligence, he fulfilled all Scriptures and righteousness, never taking anything for granted even water baptism.
However, many people fail to believe and experience the power and the truth of salvation and Christ as preached by many ministers who fall by the wayside. Many people begin to live wayward lives as their mentors and role models have been ‘caught in the act’ and they lose hope. However, God is fully aware of all these and that’s  why He says in His Word (The Holy Bible) that we are not to put our trust (hope, confidence) in man but to look to Him, the author and the finisher, the beginning and the end of our faith. Life is to begin and end with Him not man.

Please, before you say another word of advice or preaching, make sure you’re ‘bulletproof’; talk the talk and walk the walk.
